Wet Carved Concrete Workshop with Elder G. Jones

Artist Elder G. Jones comes to The Chicago Mosaic School to teach the Carved Concrete technique- a  process that was used by artisans early last century to make architectural elements.. Carving wet concrete is a method of sculpting that produces a durable piece of art. The sand and cement mixture sits in a form until stiff and then the slowly hardening material is shaped by slicing and scraping. No power tools or hammer and chisel are required. This is an excellent method for producing sculptural forms that can be used for 3D mosaic work. Individuals will be able to make a small sculpture or planter about the size of a five gallon bucket. Each student will keep their (roughly forty pound) sturdy, weather tolerant creation.Carving tools will be provided to participants and materials will be included in the cost of the class.
